More About Me
Hi! My name is Leigh. I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers, and a master's student in social work through the University of Waterloo. I am dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate and person-centred care to meet you where you are at.
I have spent a majority of my career working in community health settings providing accessible and low-barrier mental health support to vulnerable communities. I decided to move into therapeutic practice after years of providing supportive counselling to many folks that I have worked with. Working in community mental health and health-care led me to the discovery that healing happens through connection, and that many of us have difficulty in sharing the experiences that we face. Mental health & well-being is a challenge for many of us, and therefore, I am on this journey with you - not for you.
My approach to care is diverse and includes the whole picture, inclusive of your narrative and the systems around you that have contributed to shaping the dynamics you encounter.
As a social worker, I am committed to anti-oppressive and trauma-informed care. When working with me, you can anticipate that I will take into account your environments, such as work, familial and the larger systems, and the way in which you these contribute to thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behaviour. I also encourage curiosity, compassion for self, and courage throughout sessions, and consider these to be pillars of your therapeutic journey.
That's the professional side. In my personal life, I wear many hats. Fiancée, animal mum, plant lover, meditation geek, coffee and chocolate enthusiast. I enjoy cozying up on my couch to escape in books and find solace in writing prose. I consider myself a student of life, and for that, I am grateful.
We are all human, and here together sharing this experience. Mental health challenges do not discriminate; meaning that they can affect anyone and everyone, at any moment in time. Together we can work together to meet your unique and diverse challenges that you face to grow through what you go through.
